Arrival at Istanbul International Airport (IST). Meeting with our English-speaking staff and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to stroll around Istanbul, formerly known as Byzantium and Constantinople. The historical areas of the city were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985, for its important monuments and historical remains. Lodging.
FRIDAY, MARCH 21, 2025: ISTANBUL
Breakfast. Free day to enjoy an optional visit of the city. Overnight.
Day 4. SATURDAY, MARCH 22, 2025: ISTANBUL - TUNIS
Breakfast. Free time until time for transfer to Istanbul International Airport (IST) to board flight to Tunis: TK661 22MAR IST-TUN 09:00-10:00
Arrival at Tunis international airport. Meeting with our assistant and transfer to the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure to discover the city. Tunisia is located between the Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Approximately 40% of this nation is composed of the Sahara desert, while the rest is fertile soil and perfect for agriculture, in addition to having 1,300 kilometers of coastline. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5. SUNDAY, MARCH 23, 2025: TUNIS (CARTHAGE AND SIDI BOU SAID)
Breakfast. Today we will visit the city of Tunis. We will visit the Bardo Museum, which houses the most important collection of mosaics in the world. We will continue to the Medina, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is the center of the city and houses more than seven hundred monuments including palaces, mosques, mausoleums, madrasas and fountains. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon we will reach the Roman ruins of Carthage and Sidi Bou Said, a coastal village known for its white and blue painted houses. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 6. MONDAY, MARCH 24, 2025: TUNIS - KAIROUAN - SBEITLA - GAFSA - TOZEUR
Breakfast. Departure to Kairouan, the oldest Arab city in Tunisia and the fourth holiest city of Islam for Muslims, after Mecca, Fez and Jerusalem. We will visit the Great Mosque of Sidi Oqba Ibnu Naffa and the mausoleum of the Barber, called Sidi Sahbi. We will walk through the streets of this city where we will have the opportunity to visit the local handicraft workshops. Lunch in a local restaurant. Continue to Sbeitla to see its Roman-Byzantine ruins. Arrival in Tozeur and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7. TUESDAY, MARCH 25, 2025: TOZEUR
Breakfast. In the morning we will visit the magnificent palm grove with more than 200,000 palm trees where we will learn about their cultivation. This palm grove produces most of the dates that are exported abroad. Lunch. In the afternoon, visit in 4×4 vehicles of the oasis located in the mountains, ancient military posts whose function was the control and defense of the Roman routes. Chebika, irrigated by a spring that emerges among the rocks; Tamerza, surrounded by an "oued" that runs forming canyons and beautiful waterfalls; and the ancient Mides, defended by an impressive canyon. We will continue, crossing an arid environment, towards Chott El Gharsa, a large salty depression where scenes from the movie "The English Patient" were filmed. Then, among the dunes, we will see the village of Mos Espa, from "Star Wars". We will end the visit with a great panoramic view over the desert. Return to Tozeur. Dinner and lodging.
Day 8. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 26, 2025: TOZEUR - DOUZ - MATMATA - MEDENINE - DJERBA
Breakfast. Departure to the salt lake Chott El Djerid, where we will see the change of color of the springs. Then we will go to Douz, known as the gateway to the desert and its lively market. Free time. Continue to the Dahar massif to reach Matmata. Lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit a troglodyte house. They are spaces carved into a hill with a central open-air courtyard and rooms around. Departure to Medenine, which highlights its "ksour", built on overlapping floors and served as a collective storage and defense for a semi-nomadic society. Continue to Djerba, via the Roman road. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
Day 9. THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2025: DJERBA - MARETH - GABES - SFAX
Breakfast. Tour of the island, visiting: the Berber village of Guellala, famous for its pottery; the synagogue of Ghriba; and the capital, Houmt Souk. Via the ferry and Mareth, we will arrive in Gabes. Lunch. In the afternoon, panoramic view of this maritime oasis. Continue to Sfax, the second largest city in the country and a major center of oil production. We will visit the walled medina, one of the most original of the country. Dinner and lodging.
FRIDAY, MARCH 28, 2025: SFAX - EL JEM - MONASTIR - SOUSSE - TUNISIA
Breakfast and departure to El Jem, where we will see the Roman amphitheater. Continue to Monastir, where we will visit the Mausoleum of Habib Bourguiba. Lunch at the restaurant Le Chandelier, located in the marina of Monastir. Afterwards, we will visit the "ribat", dating from the 8th century. It was part of a defense plan that extended along the entire north coast of Africa. We will continue to Sousse, where we will stroll through its medina, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Departure to Tunis. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.
